<메트로폴 파라솔>은 세비야(Seville)의 엔카르나시온(Encarnacion) 광장을 재개발한 것으로, 이미 세비야의 새로운 아이콘이 되었다. 이로써 세비야는 세계에서 가장 매력적인 문화 명소 중 하나로 부각되었고, 엔카르나시온 광장은 새로운 현대적 도심으로 발전했다. 중세적인 세비야 도심의 밀집한 조직체계 속에서 독특한 도시 공간의 역할을 하는 <메트로폴 파라솔>에서는 기억과 여가, 상업 등의 매우 다양한 활동이 가능하다. 고도로 발전된 기반 시설이 광장의 활성화에 일조하면서, 이곳은 관광객과 지역민 모두에게 매력적인 명소가 된다.
목재 구조가 인상적인 <메트로폴 파라솔>은 고고학 박물관과 농산물 직판장, 고가형 광장, 파라솔 아래와 내부의 다양한 바와 레스토랑 및 파라솔 옥상의 파노라마 테라스를 갖추고 있다. 이 파라솔들은 여러 목재를 접착하고 폴리우레탄으로 코팅하여 만든 몇 안 되는 거대 하고 혁신적인 구조물이자 과거의 유적지에서 자라난 현대적인 랜드마크로서, 역사 도시와 현대 도시 사이의 독특한 관계를 정의한다. 이러한 <메트로폴 파라솔>의 다용도적 성격은 세비야 중심과 그 너머의 문화와 상업을 위한 역동적 개발의 토대를 놓는다.

[Metropol Parasol], the redevelopment of the Plaza de la Encarnacion in Seville, already became the new icon for Seville, a place of identification and to articulate Seville’s role as one of the world´s most fascinating cultural destinations. [Metropol Parasol] developed the Plaza de la Encarnacion to become the new contemporary urban center. Its role as a unique urban space within the dense fabric of the medieval inner city of Seville allows for a great variety of activities such as memory, leisure, and commerce. A highly developed infrastructure helps to activate the square, making it an attractive destination for tourists and locals alike. The [Metropol Parasol] scheme with its impressive timber structures offers an archaeological museum, a farmers’ market, an elevated plaza, multiple bars and restaurants underneath and inside the parasols, as well as a panorama terrace on the very top of the parasols. Realized as one of the largest and most innovative bonded timber constructions with a polyurethane coating, the parasols grow out of the archaeological excavation site into a contemporary landmark, defining a unique relationship between the historical and the contemporary city. [Metropol Parasols] mixed-use character initiates a dynamic development for culture and commerce in the heart of Seville and beyond.
