후지츠보 따개비 - 빛의 그릇 이 미용실은 도쿄에서 유행을 선도하는 중심지 중 하나인 오모테산도(Omotesando) 에 있다. 건물은 세 개의 천창을 통해 실내에 빛을 들이는데, 이 빛은 바닥의 긴 틈들을 통해 아래층을 거쳐 지상에까지 도달한다. 지상층은 거리 높이에서 커다란 유리창을 통해 들여다볼 수 있다. 그리하여‘ 빛의 그릇’이라는 이미지를 표현한다. 이는 ‘인공’ 조명이 넘쳐나는 지역에서‘ 자연’의 메시지를 전달하는 것이다. 구조적으로는, 얇지만 단단한 껍데기로 덮인‘ 따개비’의 모양을 표현한 세 개의 철근콘크리트 사각뿔이 지붕과 벽체의 구조부재를 이룬다. 동판은 외부 단열공법을 통합한 건물의 마감재료로 지붕과 벽체의 복잡한 모양을 덮는다. 시간이 지나면서 변화하는 동판은 정보와 환경이 끊임없이 빠르게 변화하는 지역에서‘ 시간’을 표현하는 용도로 사용되었다. 이 작은 건축 작품은‘ 빛’과‘ 시간’이라는 보편적 주제를 실험적으로 표현한다. 글 : 히로타니 요시히로 + 이시다 유사쿠 / 아키비젼 히로타니 스튜디오 이 프로젝트에서 금속을 주재료로 사용한 이유는 무엇이며, 사용된 금속의 종류와 그 특성에 대해 설명해달라. 우리는 먼저 철근콘크리트 건물을 단열재로 덮은 다음, 모든 면을 동판 지붕재로 감쌌다. 내구성을 높이면서, 시간이 지날수록 변화하는 재료가 건물을 흥미롭게 보이게 하는 것을 의도했다. 도시 지역에서는 변하지 않는 재료를 사용하는 게 보통이지만, 우리는 시간에 따라 외관이 변화하는 건축이 더 우아하다고 생각한다. 금속을 다루는 건축물의 설계, 시공 과정의 주안점은 무엇이라고 생각하는가? 재료의 특성을 이해하고, 재질의 아름다움을 극대화하는 방식으로 재료를 활용하는 일이라고 생각한다. 금속과 같이 사용하기 좋은 재료는 어떤 것이 있으며, 어떤 시너지 효과가 있는가? 이번에는 동판과 표면 처리된 강재를 사용했지만, 석재나 목재처럼 분명히 다른 재료들을 대비시키면 확실히 아름다운 시너지 효과를 낼 수 있다. 현재 주목하고 있는 재료는 어떤 것이며, 앞으로 주목 받을 재료는 무엇이라 생각하나? 현재 우리는 목재에 흥미가 있다. 목재는 건물의 구조재뿐만 아니라 마감재로도 쓸 수 있기 때문에, 다양한 범위에서 새로운 표현을 할 수 있게 한다. 앞으로는 천과 같이 가볍고 부드러운 재료에 관심이 집중될 것이다. 구조재로 사용하긴 어려울지라도, 그런 재료가 기술의 혁신을 거쳐 새로운 재현의 방식을 이뤄낼 거라고 확신한다. 인터뷰이: 히로타니 요시히로 + 이시다 유사쿠 / 아키비젼 히로타니 스튜디오 BARNACLE - A Vessel of Light This beauty parlor stands in the Omote-sando area of Tokyo, which represents one of the trend setting centers for this metropolis. The building has three roof openings which pours light into the interior and, which, by slit-like openings in the floor is led into the floors below, reaching the ground floor, which in turn can be seen from the street level through its large glass windows. Thereby, expressing the image of a “vessel of light.” It is, also, a message of “nature” in an area where there is an abundance of “artificial” light. Structurally, the shape of a “barnacle” with its thin yet hard cladding being the image, the three four-cornered conical forms in reinforced concrete are the structural elements for the roof and walls. Copper sheets cover the intricate shapes of the roof and walls as the finish material for the building, which has incorporated the exterior insulation construction method. The copper sheets, which change with the passing of time, have been used to express “Time” in an area where information and environments are ever rapidly changing. And what types of Metal have you used in this project, and what general properties do they have? We first covered the ferroconcrete building with insulation and then wrapped it all up with copper roofing. The intention here is not only improving durability, but also making the building interesting as the material varies over years. For urban cities, it is common to use the materials that remain unchanged, but we think the architecture that changes its appearance gradually over time is more delicate. About what should we be careful when designing and undertaking construction with Metal? We believe it is to understand the characteristics of the material and to utilize it by maximizing the beauty of its texture. What materials are good to be used with Metal, and what synergetic effects can occur by using them together? We used copper and surface-treated steel this time, but we can definitely gain beautiful synergetic effect by the contrast of two distinctive materials such as stone or wood. What material are you looking at now? And do you think what material will get much attention in the future? Currently, we are intrigued with wood. Since wood can be utilized for both structuring and finishing of the building, we can produce a wide range of new expressions with it. The focus materials in future should be light and soft ones such as cloth. It may be difficult to use to structure, but we’re sure that it will be a brand new representation method through technical innovation.
