다롄 국제 회의장 형태와 기능 처음부터 세계경제포럼이 주요 사용자가 될 것이라 결정되었다. 스위스 재단인 세계경제포럼은 주로 다보스(Davos)에서 매년 회의를 개최하기로 유명하며, 중국의 신축 대지에서는 매년‘ 여름철 다보스’ 회의를 조직한다. 이런 기능을 위한 요구사항들이 공간 개념뿐만 아니라, 회의실과 사무실의 크기와 수를 결정했다. 오페라 극장과 회의장을 서로 등을 맞대고 배치했기 때문에, 주 무대는 고전적인 극장 관객석으로도, 가변적인 다목적 홀로도 사용할 수 있다. 오페라 극장은 다기능 설계를 기본으로 하고 있으며, 회의와 음악, 연극, 고전 가극과 같은 행사에 아주 손쉽게 사용할 수 있다. 건물의 건축적 개념과 기능을 외부에 가시적으로 드러내기 위해, 회의장이 입면을 관통하게 했다. 이런 회의장들은 금속 외피를 박차고 솟아올라 그 외피를 변형시킨다. 외피를 이루는 타공 알루미늄 판재들을 통해 충분한 양의 자연광이 유입되고, 건물은 특별한 조각처럼 보이게 된다. 알루미늄 판재들은 일부 공공구역에서 열리면서, 도시와 다롄(Dalian)만의 광경을 선별적으로 보여준다. 설계 “이 건물은 두 요소로 이루어지는데, 이는 테이블과 지붕이다. 오페라 극장과 회의장과 출입 구역은 테이블 모양의 강구조 위에 놓여있고, 그 위에는 3차원의 비정형 입면-지붕 구조가 놓여있다.”라고 건축가 울프 프릭스(Wolf D. Prix)는 설명한다. 두 요소는 모두 3차원 철골조로서, 5 ~ 8m 사이에서 다양한 깊이를 갖는다. 전체적인 구조는 강재-콘크리트 복합 구조로 이루어진 14개의 수직 코어가 지지한다. 강재 구조는 10cm 강판을 안전하고 정확하게 용접할 수 있는 유일한 시설인 중국의 조선소에서 생산되었다. 건축가 말에 따르면, “우리는 르 코르뷔지에의 말을 실천하고 있는 셈인데, 르 코르뷔지에는 생전에 건물을 배처럼 지어야 한다고 했다.” 현대 기술과 시공의 전문성은 85m가 넘는 경간과 40m가 넘는 투사거리를 가능케 했다. 글: 쿱 힘멜블라우 Form & Function It was determined from the outset that the World Economic Forum would be its main user. This Swiss foundation is mainly known for its annual meetings in Davos and annually organizes a “summer Davos” at this new site in China. The requirements for this function determined the spatial concept, the size and number of conference rooms and offices. Since the opera and conference center are situated directly behind one another, the main stage can be used for the classic theater auditorium just as well as for the flexible multi-purpose hall. The opera house is based on a multifunctional design and can be used for such events as conferences, music and theater all the way to classic opera with very little effort. To make the building’s architectural concept and function visible from the outside, the conference halls penetrate the facade. They stand out against the metallic outer skin and deform it. The perforated aluminum slats of the exterior shell provide a sufficient amount of daylight and give the building its striking sculptural shape. The slats are opened in some of the public areas, offering selective views of the city and the bay of Dalian. Design “The building consists of two elements,” Wolf D. Prix explains, “the table and the roof. The opera, conference halls and access zones rest on the table-shaped steel construction, with a three-dimensional deformed facade-roof construction above it.” Both elements are steel space frames with depths ranging between 5 ~ 8m. The whole structure is supported by fourteen vertical cores made of composite steel and concrete. The steel constructions were produced at Chinese shipyards, since these were the only facilities where the 10cm steel plates could be welded safely and precisely. “At Coop Himmelb(l)au, we are thus putting Le Corbusier’s words into practice, when he said that buildings should be constructed like ships.” Prix says.
