드림/다이브 플랫폼 환경이 사고방식을 형성할 수 있다. 아이이건 어른이건, 공간이 상상에 개입하여 사고의 폭을 넓히고 정신을 자극할 수 있다. 이 꿈꾸는 플랫폼은 가족 별장에다가 함께 짓는 주말 프로젝트였다. 천막을 갖춘 오두막은 아름다운 여름 밤에 별을 바라보기 좋은 새로운 장소이며, 캔틸레버 구조의 다이빙 플랫폼은 아침에 필요한 커피를 대신한다!
이 플랫폼은 데크 밑에 재활용 재료를 쓰고 지역 철물점에서 구한 2x4 각목들을 덧대어 구성했다. 기본 형태는 이용 가능한 재료와 도구를 활용한 결과다. 기본적인 두 기능인 수면과 놀이를 지원할 정도의 필수적인 골조만 남겨놓고 나머지는 모두 없앴으며, 날씨가 안 좋을 때는 방수 처리된 단순한 캔버스 천막을 오두막 위로 덮을 수 있다!

이 프로젝트에서 어떤 재활용 재료가 어떻게 사용되었는가?
이 꿈꾸는 플랫폼은 캐나다의 전원지역인 온타리오(Ontario)의 외딴 곳에 위치한다. 건설 재료를 구하기에는 거리가 멀기 때문에, 기존의 사용할 수 있는 오브제를 찾아 재료로 쓰는 게 필수적이다! 각종 다양한 잡동사니들과 부두, 차량 및 보트가 건설 재료로서 풍부한 쓰임이 있는 걸로 드러났다.
재료의 수집 경로는 어떻게 되는가? 재료를 다시 이용하기 위해 어떤 처리 과정을 거쳤는가?
재사용된 모든 재료는 시골 헛간에서 구한 것들이다. 수명이 다한 보트와 부두, 차량을 분해하여 재료로 사용했고, 앞으로 하게 될 프로젝트를 위해 따로 비축도 해두었다. 헛간 주변에서 선반과 찬장, 단지 등을 샅샅이 뒤져보는 건 흥미로운 경험인데, 오래된 물건에 새 용도를 부여하려면 상상력을 발휘해야 하기 때문이다. 업사이클링 건축을 하게 된 배경을 설명해달라. 우리는 뭔가를 만드는 걸 아주 좋아한다!
이 프로젝트를 통해 전달하고 싶은 환경적인 메시지는 무엇인가?
줄이고, 재사용하고, 재활용하라... 상상을 실천하라! 나가서 새로운 부품을 사느니, 주변의 눈에 안 띄는 곳에 있던 잡동사니를 재사용할 방법을 생각하라!
현재 주목하고 있는 재료는 어떤 것이며, 앞으로 주목 받을 재료는 무엇이라 생각하나?
우리는 뭔가를 버리는 걸 싫어하며, 항상 재료들을 재활용할 궁리를 한다. 규모가 더 큰 건축 작업에서는, 옛 재료들을 새롭게 사용할 방법을 찾는 걸 좋아한다!

Your environment can shape the way you think. Whether you’re a child or an adult, spaces can engage your imagination, broaden your mind and excite your spirit. This dreaming platform was a collaborative weekend project at the family cottage. The screened in hut is the new favorite spot for star gazing on beautiful summer nights and the cantilevered diving platform replaces the need for coffee in the morning!
The dreaming platform is constructed of salvaged materials from under the deck, supplemented with 2x4’s from the local hardware store. The basic form is a result of available materials and tools. The structure is stripped down to its essentials to support two elemental functions, sleeping and play. A simple waxed canvas is unrolled over the hut for when the weather gets gnarly!

What Recycled materials were used in this project, and in what ways?
The dreaming platform is located in a remote location in rural Ontario, Canada. Because of its lack of proximity to building materials, being resourceful with available found objects is a must! An abundance of thingamajigs and doodads as well as retired docks, vehicles and boats proved to be an ample resource for construction materials.
In what ways have you acquired the materials? What processes were required for reusing them?
All of the reused materials were acquired at the cottage. Decommissioned boats, docks and vehicles were disassembled into useful materials and stored away for a possible future project. Rummaging around the barn, through selves, cupboards and jars is an exciting exercise, using your imagination to re-appropriate old objects into a new use.

What environmental message do you want to communicate through this project? Reduce, reuse, recycle... Give your imagination a workout! Instead of going out and buying a new part think of a way to reuse that thingamajig in the back of your closet!
What material are you looking at now? And do you think what material will get much attention in the future?
We hate throwing things away, we are always looking for ways to reuse materials. In our larger architectural works we love to find new ways of using old materials!
